Why Prenatal Yoga?

Pregnancy is a time of transition and change. As baby grows, your body changes. There are so many emotions to navigate! And so many things to do. It can be a time of great joy and great stress. Prenatal Yoga at Sangha is a way to strengthen your connection to your body and to baby. It offers tools, resources and community to help you feel strong and supported, increasing your sense of well being. Helping to give your baby their very best start.

Physical Benefits

The American Pregnancy Association promotes prenatal yoga as a form of exercise that supports overall pregnancy wellness. They list the following benefits:

  • Improved sleep

  • Reduced stress

  • Increased strength, flexibility, and endurance

  • Decreased lower back pain

  • Decreased nausea

  • Decreased headaches

  • Reduced risk of preterm labor

  • Lowered risk of intrauterine growth restriction (a condition that slows the baby’s growth)

  • studies have found there is a relationship between prenatal yoga and the reduction of hypertension-related complications, as well as, improvement of fetal outcome.

By working specific muscle groups and stretching others, Prenatal Yoga helps to strengthen and prepare your body for giving birth encouraging a smoother birth and healing process.

Karrie Green is a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, Licensed Massage Therapist, Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, Certified Lactation Consultant, Childbirth Educator. As a Massage Therapist and Spinning Babies Ⓡ Aware Practitioner Karrie specializes in Prenatal Massage and Bodywork.  You can choose either a 60 or 90 min massage or a 2 hour body balancing session which is beneficial during the third trimester to prepare for a faster, easier labor or for postpartum recovery
