Near Dorchester, IA

You are the dream conceived between dusk and dawn and born to light

You are the polished jewel of centuries

You are the vessel that carries the heart waters of the past to the future

You are the the embodiment of those who came before you and now stand behind you

You are the torch that lights the way, you can warm and burn

You are the child of many

You are the dream alive at last

Connecting to our Ancestors is a beautiful way of connecting to ourselves. It can bring us into deeper alignment, offer a us a greater sense of being supported, and create space in our hearts for profoundly positive change. Ancestors come in many forms and when we learn to identify and build relationships with them new worlds open to us.

Ancestry Lost and Found

When I was ten, my mother, angry about something I had said regarding my father, burst out “I don’t know why you're always protecting him, he isn’t even your dad!”

That’s how I learned that truth.

I remember not feeling surprised. I remember feeling affronted that my mother would break this news to me in such a way. As a weapon.
It should have felt earth shattering. But it wasn’t. I remember just looking at her. There was nothing to say. I went back to my room turned on the oldies radio(50’s and 60’s music at the time), and snuggled my cat. This explained some things, and hadn't been the dart to my heart that it was intended to be.
For me although my dad wasn’t my biological father, he had willingly stepped into the roll and loved me the best he could. Even at that young age I embraced and understood how fortunate I was. I also understood that I walked in a world that didn’t see it quite that way.
My mom was adopted, and I don't think it was ever a secret. Perhaps it was, maybe she found out at 10 in a heated moment. I do know that she carries loneliness from that that I do not. And I'm grateful I don't.
As I grew older and encountered conversations around the role of Ancestors in our spiritual life, I did first feel a little sad. How could I ever know the support of my true ancestors? But eventually the sadness sprouted into wisdom.
I came to understand that just because I didn’t know them by surname, and family tree, didn’t mean my ancestors didn’t know me. And on top of these known yet unknown ancestors of blood, I was blessed to have behind me the ancestors of the blood that chose me. I was RICH with ancestral support, all I had to do was reach out and begin building the relationships.
So I did. With stories and remembrances, with dreams, and gratitude. And eventually, much later an Ancestory DNA test(modern times people!)
When my grandparents returned to spirit, my ancestral support & connection changed. It became even more palpable.
I am grateful to know and feel just how many forms & meanings ancestor can hold.
I celebrate how each of us is the dream alive for those who went before and now stand behind, whether we know them by name or not.

This year I feel called to share practices that help keep ALL our ancestors close.

Maybe you know the honor and burden of being a cycle breaker. Maybe you’re looking for a special support as you’re chasing those dreams and breaking generational samskaras. Maybe you just want slow down and get grounded and to experiencing the spiritual nourishment that Ancestral veneration offers is a bonus

This weekend in November is about all of that and so much more.

I hope you’ll join me in celebrating those who have both gone ahead, and walk with us.

The Space

You’ll feel nature wrapping her Autumn arms around you as you arrive to our cozy cabin overlooking a serene pond, nestled at the foot of rolling hills and bluffs.

You’ll enjoy cozy accommodations designed to ground and comfort you as you open your heart.

The Experience

The days will lengthen as we drop into the rhythm of nature in Autumn. It’s important that we have time to decompress and process. Now as the leaves turn and begin to fall is the perfect time to reflect on who and what has brought us this far.

Together we’ll honor those who support us in the ether, our ancestors both known and unknown. We’ll share our stories, explore the beauty of cultivating relationship with our own ancestors, and lean into the legacy that we hope to leave when we step into the role of honored ancestor.

We’ll explore how practices like Meditation, Creative Expression, Sound Journeying, and Altar building/maintanence can offer us healing and support, and be used to deepen our connection to those who came before us.
